Bill and I usually attend the Pow Wow in Helena. One year as we were leaving, Harry Beauchamp, in full regalia, followed us to our car talking as fast as I do.
He would not let us leave until we promised to come back later and take him out to dinner. Harry is very persuasive and how could one even question a warrior with such impecable determination.
What a delight. Harry had travelled with the Indigenous Elders...knew many of our friends in Indian Country and was an accomplished ceremonial leader and medicine man. Harry and his two sons had been part of the Lewis and Clark National Historical Trail exibitions.
Of course we invited Harry to do ceremony in our home for many of our friends. Powerful, beautiful, humorous teachings and healings occurred.
Harry has a vast knowledge of traditional native healing, tools, plants, ceremonies and stories. Harry built and ran a sweatlodge in the Helena Valley teaching and healing many. We travelled to ancient Native sites to discover and document which were Assiniboine. The door of the Assiniboine Teepee and medicine lodge faces south. Other tribes face the doorway to the east.
The time has come to dry the tears and look clearly into the future. We are looking forward to many more adventures with Harry in the coming years.
