For many years a recurrent dream haunted me. The dream was of a painted Teepee in a wooded area. In 2005, after experiencing the dream for three concecutive nights. I painted the image. Then one morning I awoke knowing that this was the day. I told Bill that I was off on a adventure to find the Teepee.
Energy pulled me north to the Blackfeet Reservation..the car drove itself down into a canyon and there it was. The painted TeePee of my dreams was right there in three dimensional reality..in full color.. in the front yard of a home. I burst into tears....it was real.
A Blackfeet man approached my car and I suddently realized how strange this must be for him to have an unknown white woman crying in his front yard. I told him of my dream. Willie Crawford simply stated,"It's my brother that you are looking for. He is the medicine man. My brother is Tom Crawford." In my painting the Teepee was in a wooded area. Willie informed me that the TeePee had been in the forest and a bear had torn it down so Willie had re-painted the TeePee and put it up last night in his yard.
My husband, Bill and I returned to Heart Butte for the next few years looking for Tom Crawford. No luck. Then one day we were walking in the North Hills near our home in Helena. In the yard of a new house was a sweatlodge. We knocked on the door, met Chris and were invited to a sweat. John Day Rider led the sweat. He leaned forward and said to me "You will come to the Sundance in Heart Butte. It will be on Tom Crawford's property. He is the medicine man you have been looking for." Every one laughed.
We attended the Sundance for two years, spending time with Floy and Tonya. Tom, Floy and Tonya host Sundance each year and weekly sweatlodge at their ranch near Glacier National Park. They offer horseback riding, herb walks, stories, singing and dancing through Feather Woman Mountain Adventures. Email Floy at floycrawford@yahoo.com. for the adventure of a lifetime.
